The Mechanism of action of Biox antimicrobials?

- Quaternary ammonium silanes additives : Silane, when added to QUAT, becomes Quat-silane improves the adhesion to various surfaces. The Quaternary ammonium silane Technology is an organic contact-killing process that possesses broad spectrum antimicrobial activities with low cytotoxicity. The QAC have shown their effectiveness in reduction of bacterial growth in a wide range of applications including Paints, Inks, Concrete, Textiles and medical devices.
- Mechanism of Quat Silane : Biox range of Quat Silane have antimicrobial effect against a broad range of microorganisms including vegetative bacteria, yeast, molds, algae, and viruses. The growth inhibitory activity of QACs is higher for gram-positive bacteria and algae compared with gram-negative bacteria and molds. Quats are positively charged polyatomic ions of the structure. It disrupts the virus, bacteria etc, by use of chemicals. Silanes are extremely efficient bonding agents that can be coupled to other molecules and then used to permanently bond those molecules to a target surface.
- Nano zinc oxide antifungal additives : Zinc is proven to have antifungal properties. It can be incorporated easily into materials at any stage of the manufacturing process. The particles size below 30 nano scale make Zinc oxide unique and highly effective in combating with fungi like Nano zinc oxide particles have been claimed to have profound antimicrobial and antifungal properties than the conventional sized zinc oxide particles. It can be also used as a mild antimicrobial/antifungal additive in grouts to prevent the growth of molds on grout and tile surfaces and textiles. Regulatory authorities approve zinc nanoparticles for safe use in food and cosmetic application as an antimicrobial additive. They are used for food packaging and as nutritional supplements too. - Silver-based antimicrobial additives : Silver has a long history of treating burn wounds due to its ability to reduce microbial loads in wounds. Scientists have proved the potential antimicrobial properties of silver ions. It is found to be effective against 150 strains of bacteria, fungi and some viruses too. Silver ions destroy bacteria by eliminating the energy production of the cell or by binding to membrane proteins causing structural changes in the cell wall and thus preventing transport in and out of the cell. They can be easily incorporated into materials like paints, polymers, textiles, coatings, ceramics and plastic masterbatches.
