For the year of 2019

Environment Mela at Gilard in June
Coinciding with 5th June-World Environment Day, June month is celebrated as an ‘Environment Month’ in Gilard since the year 2011. In June 2018 besides other environment friendly activities throughout the month we gave the event a new twist by organising an Environment Mela. The activities in the Mela were focused entirely on environmental concerns like ‘Save the birds’ (keep water and food for them), ‘Waste segregation’ (Segregate Dry & Wet Waste), ‘Air Pollution’ (Personal story sharing on adverse health sufferings due to air pollution), and ‘Say no to Single use plastic’ (use cloth bags for shopping). There were other fun events like ’Poster making competition on Pollution’, ‘Kavi Sammelan', ‘Qawwali’ & ‘Punjabi Giddha’ which all had the common theme of environment conservation. Guests & participants were given flower pots recycled from plastic rims to encourage recycling of plastic.
Our carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere as a result of our activities and it contributes to climate change. This can be reduced by changing our habits. These are life style changes that don’t cost us much, like using energy more efficiently, contributing towards reduction in fuel usage, recycling plastic and reducing meat consumption, our Environment Mela made us aware on these matters.
Green Santa celebrates New Year again with Gilardians on 1st Jan 2019
On the morning of 1st January 2019 Gilardians were thrilled to meet their Green Santa for the second time. A clean and green environment is of very high importance to our Green Santa. He interacted with Gilardians, “Remember to be respectful towards nature. Respecting means that you must save Water, Power & Paper. Secondly, you must control generation of waste which becomes a burden on the environment like generation of Used oil, Waste Cloth, wood waste, etc. It is good to collect data, analyse and put appropriate controls. Thirdly you must be nice towards nature by not using plastic bags.” Our proud Gilardians had lots to share about efforts made by them in 2018-19 to save the environment. They got lovely gifts for their efforts and danced with Santa on bhangra tunes, welcoming a new year of hope and happiness.

Tree Plantation drive in June 2019
After planting 250 saplings in Mohali at various public places in 2018 under our CSR and taking care of these saplings for one full year to ensure they become strong enough to survive, this year we gave this activity a new shape by making it an internal CSR with our Gilardians. During the event many Gilardians who have space in or around their residence to grow trees, got themselves registered with our Team EHSAS and got saplings of fruit trees of their choice. Gilardian, Ms. Neelam from Assembly Department volunteered to dress up like a tree and sing, ”Ghar ghar pahunche yeh sandesh, hara bhara hai apna desh…”.
Our events always have great employee participation and that is what makes them so special.

Gilard supported this by setting up a Compost Pit in its premises and pledging to use only self made compost in company lawns. In two months of initiation of this project, our first lot of compost of more than 500 kgs was produced. We request general public to support the Municipal Corporation by segregating Dry & Wet waste at home for further composting and by purchasing only city compost for their gardens and farm houses.

Activites on Road Safety
In general Marathon participants may have varied targets ranging from participating to finishing or winning a marathon, but when 50 Gilardians registered themselves for First Mohali Marathon they were very clear of their goal-”Spreading Road Safety Awareness”. They were keen to connect their physical efforts with a social responsibility message, in a way that the on-lookers were inspired and encouraged to follow traffic rules.
Swachh Bharat Sahyog
Every Indian’s Dram - Clean India- Swachh Bharat!
Moving ahead with our endeavour to support Nation’s call for a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan we are continuing with cleaning the roads after sikh religious processions, called Nagar Kirtans. A Nagar Kirtan is a Sikh custom involving singing of holy hymns in a procession led by the saffron-robed, five beloved of the Guru, the Panj Piare. They are followed by the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib.
The role of Gilardians is - displaying posters on road sides, a day before the Nagar kirtan, requesting public to throw the used disposable material in dustbins, and cleaning the road side litter after the procession.

Gilard being very conscious about the health of its employees, organised a workshop on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on 16th Jan '15. This life saving first aid training workshop was conducted by doctors from Fortis Hospital, Mohali. During this educative session we learnt that if the heart stops pumping, it is a case of cardiac arrest and the gap between life and death is only of a few minutes. Regular check-ups like thyroid levels, vitamin D deficiency etc were recommended with age, to prevent health concerns.

Swachha Bharat Sahyog is our initiative to support the Government's 'Swachha Bharat Abhiyan'.
With Swachha Bharat Abhiyan on in full swing all over India, Gilard’s Swachha Bharat Sehyog initiative is also contributing to this social cause. The first call of Team EHSAS to control road side litter related to prasad distribution during a religious procession, to celebrate Guru Gobind Singhji’s Birth Anniversary was supported by many Gilardians. Their children made beautiful chart papers requesting people to throw the litter in dustbins and these enthusiastic children also took the onus to display these charts on the roadside where food stalls of prasad were put by the devotees.
Under this campaign our Team EHSAS also organizes visits to Government's Primary Schools in and around Mohali & Chandigarh. A skit on Environment — 'Kal, Aaj Aur Kal' is performed by Gilardians for the young children and an interaction is made with them to educate them on the need to maintain good personal hygiene as well as to adopt habits in routine life which would help save water, paper and power. The fun element in the skit helps in getting the message registered easily in their young minds.
