This test method covers the determination of the foaming characteristics of lubricating oils at specified temperatures. This is two bath assembly with Temperature maintained at 24OC and 94.5OC. The liquid bath is used to heat the graduated glass cylinder containing sample to any temperature between ambient to 130OC. A diffuser is mounted on stainless steel or equivalent material tube is used to pass air through the heated sample. By adding cooling accessories / arrangement the test temperature of ~ 24OC is achieved and the test sequences are carried out as stated in ASTM D 892 / IP 146.

Channel point is the lowest safe temperature that a gear lubricant can be used. The test apparatus is used for storing the samples for 18 hours at the temperature specified in test standard. The sample procedure is followed by cutting a channel in the lubricants with a metal strip, and determining whether the lubricant flows together to cover the bottom of the container within 10 seconds

This test method covers the determination of the loss in mass by evaporation of lubricating greases and oils for applications where evaporation loss is a factor. Evaporation loss data can be obtained at any temperature between 100 to 150OC. The weighed sample of lubricant in an evaporation cell is placed in a bath maintained at the desired test temperature. Heated air is passed over its surface for 22 hours. The evaporation loss is calculated from the loss in mass of the sample.

RUST PREVENTIVE CHARACTERISTIC APPARATUS FOR GREASES :: ASTM D 1743

This test apparatus is used for the method which covers the determination of the corrosion preventive properties of greases using grease-lubricated tapered roller bearings stored under wet conditions. Cleaned and lubricated bearings are run under a light thrust load for specific time to distribute the lubricant in a pattern that might be found in service. The bearings are exposed to water and then stored controlled environmental conditions. After cleaning, the bearing cups are examined for evidence of corrosion.

This test apparatus is used for determination of sulfur in petroleum products, including lubricating oils containing additives, additive concentrates, and lubricating greases that cannot be burned completely in a wick lamp. The test method is applicable to any petroleum product sufficiently low in volatility that it can be weighed accurately in an open sample bottle and containing at least 0.1 % sulfur. The sample is oxidized by combustion in a bomb containing oxygen under pressure. The sulfur, as sulfate in the bomb washings, is determined gravimetrically as barium sulfate.

This test apparatus determines resistance of lubricating greases to oxidation when stored statically in an oxygen atmosphere in a sealed system at an elevated temperature under conditions of test. The sample of grease is oxidized in a pressure vessel heated to 99°C (210°F) and filled with oxygen at 110 psi (758 kPa). Pressure is observed and recorded at stated intervals. The degree of oxidation after a given period of time is determined by the corresponding decrease in oxygen pressure.

The test apparatus determines oxidation stability of new and in-service turbine oils and other industrial oils. Generally the test is carried out in pressurized test vessel in presence of water and copper catalyst at 150OC. The amount of time required for specific drop in pressure which is the measure of oxidation stability. The test apparatus provided in accordance with ASTM D 2272, ASTM D4742, IP 229 test methods.
